This TV commercial is a prime
example of a portfolio approach in creative advertising. SkinnyGirl sets out to
leverage its existing brand line and equity to tout new and strategic messaging.
The ad attempts to do a lot within
its message. First, there is the news
that the portfolio of flavors has expanded. Then comes a very functional
message about low-calories. Finally, the creative wants to remind viewers that
this is a ladies social brand.
The pour demonstrations staged
against the woman in the red dress are tightly constructed and give the spot
the feel of a daytime packaged-goods commercial - a safe and sensible approach,
given the target audience of women watching at home.
