Though electric vehicles are becoming a big business nowadays, History Channel says it is not completely new technology. Back in the 1890s, the first running electric car was invented in the United States. The idea did not catch on, partly because the electric cars could not keep up with the horsepower of their combustion engine counterparts. More than 100 years later, Ford says its C-MAX and Fusion Hybrid vehicles reduce emissions and have impressive horsepower.
