Irene Cleaves opened her restaurant, The Four Way Grill, in 1946. The restaurant would go on to serve Black community members, celebrities and Civil Rights activists such as Martin Luther King, Jr. After Mrs. Cleaves passed in 1998, her restaurant continued to grow its legacy in Memphis, Tennessee. Patrons and employees alike comment that this legacy was built on providing a space for everyone to enjoy good food and good company -- you never know who you might run into while dining! Google highlights The Four Way in promotion of the Black-owned businesses that can be found on its search engine.
