As World War II rages across Europe, reclusive writer Alice secludes herself from the conflict in the South England seaside. One day, however, the impacts of the war come literally knocking at her door, when she learns she is to adopt Frank, a young survivor from the British Blitz. Through their relationship is rocky at first, the two develop a connection that allows Frank to move beyond a traumatic event, and Alice to reconnect with humanity.
