A man wakes up with a start, feeling trapped in his sheets and heart pumping from a nightmare. He gets ready with his dog tags still pressed against his chest. As he leaves his apartment, every sound is heightened and he's aware of every dog barking in the neighborhood. He gives a wide berth to an empty box on the road and gets to work late. His boss confronts him and asks what's wrong and the man admits that it's the same issue he's been having for a while. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says that what he goes through is the same as many other veterans and encourages any veteran struggling with mental health to make the connection and reach out to get help.
