Put yourself in the mind of an ordinary chicken sandwich. Are you there? Good. Now empathize with the chopped poultry and her envy of a Wendy's Asiago Chicken sandwich. What would that look like?

Wendy's imagines it for you in this TV commercial. The Asiago Chicken sandwich runs around living a lavish life with the Wendy's spokeswoman. It's an arguably insane idea and complicated set-up to get to the simple core message of 'our sandwich is better than the others.'

Wendy's pushes the envelope like this to engage eyeballs. It's sometimes risky, given that viewers can be distracted or tune out. Fortunately, the squirrly spot anchors itself by keeping scenes built around the featured product - Asiago Chicken. That alone can trigger the viewer focus needed to stay on Wendy's crazy commercial ride.
