Legacy. Universities often tap
into it as a message in TV commercials, but this ad from the University of
Missouri is steeped in the symbols of legacy. Playing up its brand icon, the
university leans its columns imagery to evoke classical education and a
traditional experience.
The message is geared particularly
to those with ties to the university. This is always a risky play in that the
ad could rely too much on preaching to the choir, rather than recruiting the
student body.
The ad might be only an adequate
recruitment vehicle, but the powerful legacy and heritage messaging, coupled
with significant branding impact is likely a strong motivator for potential
alumni and family donors.
